Corina Martinez

Director, Community Organizing & Research Engagement (core) at AltaMed

Corina Martinez has a diverse work experience in the public health sector. Corina started their career in 2008 as a Physical Fitness Counselor at Phoenix House California, where they created and implemented fitness programs for youth in substance abuse recovery. From 2009 to 2012, they worked at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health as a Physical Activity Specialist, focusing on reducing chronic disease through community engagement and policy changes.

In 2012, they joined the California Department of Public Health as a Physical Activity Program Coordinator, overseeing the implementation of nutrition education and physical activity promotion programs. Corina then returned to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health in 2013 as a Health Program Specialist, where they developed a postpartum weight management program.

In 2015, Corina joined AltaMed Health Services as a Healthy Schools Program Coordinator, collaborating with schools to implement wellness programs and secure approval for new wellness policies. Corina later served as a Program Manager for CDC REACH, focusing on policy changes to support healthy habits in Southeast Los Angeles. In 2019, they became the Manager of Community Health Impact at AltaMed, empowering community members to implement health promotion projects.

Corina'smost recent role is as the Director of Community Organizing & Research Engagement (CORE) at AltaMed, where they lead efforts to advance health equity and social justice by engaging community residents and patients. Corina'sresponsibilities include fiscal and administrative oversight, collaboration between community mobilizing and research activities, and evaluation of community engagement impact on policy change.

Corina Martinez earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from California State University, Northridge in the period from 2004 to 2009. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) in Exercise Physiology from the same institution, completing it from 2009 to 2011. In addition to their academic education, Corina obtained several certifications to enhance their professional skills. Corina became a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in September 2015. In December 2018, they became a PROSCI Certified Change Practitioner, receiving training from Prosci. Corina also obtained the Walk With Ease Certified Instructor certification from the Arthritis Foundation in May 2012, the Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist certification from the American College of Sports Medicine in March 2012, and the AED, First Aid & CPR certification from the American Red Cross in September 2011.
