Florian Koch currently serves as the Systemverantwortlicher Labore for the Neubauprojekt Polarstern II at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, starting in February 2024. In this role, Florian Koch participates in the technical scientific council, contributing expertise in overseeing scientific laboratories and infrastructure for Germany's new flagship research icebreaker. Previously, from September 2017 to March 2024, Florian Koch led the DFG Project 'ViTMeD' at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, focusing on the dynamics of primary production in high nutrient low chlorophyll ocean regions. Earlier experience includes a postdoctoral fellowship at the Alfred Wegener Institute (2014-2017), examining nutrient cycling in marine ecosystems, and a postdoctoral researcher position at Stony Brook University (2012-2014). Florian Koch earned a PhD in marine science from Stony Brook University, where research was conducted from 2006 to 2012.
