Are Staurset has extensive experience in IT management and project coordination, currently serving as Seniorrådgjevar IT at Ålesund kommune since January 2020. Previously, Staurset worked as Prosjektkoordinator IT for the Nye Ålesund kommune project from January to December 2019, overseeing the municipal merger of Skodje, Ørskog, Haram, Sandøy, and Ålesund. Staurset's prior roles include IT-sjef for eKommune-samarbeidet Nordre Sunnmøre from February 2013 to December 2018, and IT-sjef/CIO and Seksjonsleiar IT at Ålesund kommune from June 1993 to December 2018.
