Orange Kao has worked in the tech industry since 2008. In that time, they have held various roles at four different companies. At Kat Digital Corp., they served as a Software Engineer from 2008 to 2012, where they established a unified build environment, implemented daily builds, and made the most contributions to the corporate wiki. From 2012 to 2017, they worked as a Software Engineer at Lilee Systems, where they proposed a vision to reach new heights in test automation and quality assurance, and reduced test time by 92% and false positive rate from 15% to 5%. From 2017 to 2020, they held both the roles of Development Engineer and DevOps Engineer at Till Payments, where they worked on board bring-up, modified the boot process to reduce the chance of NAND corruption, modified uboot to workaround board-specific issues and improve power management IC support, and customised NFC driver, as well as socket programming in Java and Ruby to interface with 3rd-party hardware. Most recently, they have been a Site Reliability Engineer at Aiven since 2020.

Orange Kao received a Master of IT from Macquarie University between 2016 and 2017. Prior to that, they studied Computer Science and Information Engineering at Ming Chuan University between 2005 and 2008. In addition, they have obtained certifications including PTE Academic from Pearson in October 2018, IELTS from IDP Education Ltd in July 2016, and Working with Children Check (NSW) from the Office of the Children's Guardian in 2017.
