Josep Prat has worked in a variety of roles in the software engineering industry since 2003. From 2003-2006, they worked as an Intern in LCFIB at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and then as a Consultant at Matchmind from 2005-2006. Josep then worked as a Technical Senior at Aventia from 2006-2008, and as a Software Developer at ANCERT from 2008-2011. Josep then moved to GameDuell in 2011, where they worked as an HTML5 Architect and Java Lead Developer until 2017. From 2017-2021, they worked as a Software Development Manager and Senior Software Engineer at Springer Nature. Josep is currently working as an Apache Kafka Committer at The Apache Software Foundation since 2022.

Josep Prat obtained a Computer Science Engineer degree from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in 2005. Josep then went on to obtain a Sun Certified Programmer (SCJP 5.0) certification from SUN in 2007. In 2010, they obtained a Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD 5.0) certification from SUN/Oracle. In 2012, they obtained a Functional Programming Principles in Scala certification from Coursera. In 2013, they obtained a Principles of Reactive Programming certification from Coursera and an Oracle Certified Expert, EE 6 Enterprise JavaBeans Developer certification from Oracle.
