Raymond Liang

Principal Mechanical Engineer (Propulsion) at Airbus US Space & Defense

Raymond Liang has a diverse work experience in the aerospace industry. Raymond currently works as a Principal Mechanical Engineer (Propulsion) at Airbus U.S. Space & Defense, Inc. since 2022. Prior to that, they had a long tenure at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory from 2017 to 2022. During this time, they held various roles such as Solar Array Lead, Propulsion Test Engineer, Contamination Modeling Scientist, and Spacecraft Charging Engineer. In these roles, they conducted spacecraft charging and ion plume analysis for DART, led electrostatic discharge tests, and worked on contamination modeling. Raymond also worked at SSL (Space Systems Loral) from 2012 to 2017 as a Propulsion Specialist, where they contributed to the development of over 20 spacecraft with electric propulsion and was responsible for Hall-effect thruster development and qualification.

Raymond Liang completed their education in Aerospace Engineering, starting with a Bachelor's degree in the field of study from Virginia Tech in 2007. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan from 2007 to 2008. Building upon their academic achievements, Raymond Liang then went on to complete their Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, which they successfully obtained in 2013.
