Mike Carnes

Vice President, Emerging Company Development at North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBiotech)

Mike Carnes has a diverse work experience in various roles and organizations. Mike started their career in 2006 as an Assistant Researcher at Syngenta. From 2007 to 2012, they worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University. In 2013, they joined SBTDC as a Technology Commercialization Counselor and later became an Equity Funding Specialist. Their work at SBTDC continued until 2022. Currently, since 2022, Mike is working at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBiotech) as the Senior Director of Investments in the Emerging Company Development division. In 2023, they were promoted to the position of Vice President, Emerging Company Development at NCBiotech.

Mike Carnes received a Bachelor of Microbiology degree from North Carolina State University in 2006. Mike then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Microbial Biotechnology degree from the same university between 2010 and 2012. Additionally, they completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializing in Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies at NC State Poole College of Management from 2010 to 2013.
