Andrea Athanas

Vice President - Enterprise And Investment at African Wildlife Foundation

Andrea Athanas has a diverse work experience in the conservation and environmental field. Andrea started their career at Shell as a Biodiversity Advisor, where they designed tools for managers to address biodiversity risks and advocated for biodiversity policy issues. Andrea then moved on to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), where they served as a Programme Officer and later as a Senior Program Officer. In these roles, they developed programs on energy, ecosystems, and livelihoods and engaged with extractive industries. Andrea then joined the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), initially as a Senior Program Design Officer and later as the Program Design Manager for Agriculture and Energy. Andrea then became the Senior Director for Business Engagement and Europe, responsible for AWF's policy and partnerships in Europe. Currently, Andrea serves as the Vice President for Enterprise and Investment at AWF, overseeing program design and external relations staff in Europe and business engagement staff in Africa.

Andrea Athanas holds a MSc degree in Environmental Assessment and Evaluation from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), which was obtained from 1996 to 1997. Prior to that, they earned a BA degree in Economics and English from the University of Michigan, completing their studies from 1988 to 1992. Additionally, they have also received a Certificate in Human Rights and Environmental Protection for Sustainable Development from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), although the specific years of study for this certificate are not provided.
