Roman Gerbers has been working in the field since 2011, when they began as an Intern & Working Student for MTU Maintenance. In 2012, they became a Research Assistant at the University of Rhode Island. In 2014, they were a Research Assistant at Technische Universität Braunschweig, and in 2015, they were promoted to Research Associate. In 2019, they became Co-Founder & Head of Automation at Aeditive.

Roman Gerbers completed their Bachelor of Science in Maschinenbau at Technische Universität Braunschweig from 2009 to 2012. Roman then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at the University of Rhode Island from 2012 to 2013. Finally, they completed a Master of Science in Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen Maschinenbau at Technische Universität Braunschweig from 2013 to 2014.
