Aftab Alam has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several companies and roles. Aftab began their career in 2003 as a Feature Contributor at Deccan Chronicle, where they worked until 2006. Aftab then joined Perfect Relations as an Associate Manager from 2004 to 2007. Following this, they joined Genesis Burson-Marsteller in 2007 as a Senior Manager in Public Affairs. In this role, Aftab led regulatory risk assessment mandates for domestic and foreign clients, developed actionable inputs for government relations campaigns, and handled special projects for global corporations. Aftab's latest position is as an Account Director at Adfactors PR, a role they have been in since September 2017.

Aftab Alam completed their MA in Political Science from Doctor Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University from 1989 to 1991. Prior to that, they attended Model High School Aurangabad, although the specific duration and field of study are unknown.
