Peter Burks has extensive experience in the fields of nanotechnology, materials, and photochemistry. Peter began their professional career in 2008 as a Graduate Student Researcher in Prof. Peter Ford's Research Group at UC Santa Barbara, where they developed and tested new nanomaterial systems for light-controlled drug delivery. This work resulted in 5 publications and 2 provisional patents. During their time at UC Santa Barbara, they also held roles as a Teaching Assistant and Lead Teaching Assistant, and was elected Teaching Assistant of the Year in 2009.
In 2011, they were a Researcher in Suzhou China at the Suzhou Institute for Nanotech and Nanobionics (SINANO), where they worked on transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nanomaterials characterization for ~3 months.
In 2013, they began working as a Market Research Advisor and Crowdfunding Consultant for Private Consulting.
In 2014, Peter Burks joined Active Life Scientific, Inc. as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Market Development. In this role, they played an integral leadership role across multiple functions of the company, and led the development and implementation of a new-market education-forward lead generation and sales process. Peter also played a critical role in the commercialization of OsteoProbe for Research Use Only, transitioning it from an academic laboratory prototype into a commercial research instrument sold worldwide.
Peter Burks obtained a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from UC Santa Barbara in 2013. Prior to that, they completed a Certificate Graduate Program in Management Practice (GPMP) in Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies from UC Santa Barbara in 2012. Peter also earned a BS (with honors) in Chemistry from UC Santa Barbara in 2007.
