David Smith, PhD, CFA, is a seasoned investment professional with extensive experience in corporate governance and equity research. Currently serving as Senior Investment Director at abrdn since November 2011, David integrates sustainability and fundamental equity research into portfolio construction, with a focus on the Asia Pacific region, including Japan. Prior to this role, David was Head of Corporate Governance for Asia at Institutional Shareholder Services from October 2007 to November 2011 and led M&A and regulatory research initiatives. David has also provided corporate governance consulting through HIM Governance Pte Ltd and served as a Teaching Fellow in International Business at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China. David's educational background includes a PhD in Corporate Governance and an MA in Corporate Strategy & Governance from Nottingham University Business School, along with a BSc in Business Economics from Aberystwyth University.
