Charles Kochman has had a successful career in the publishing industry. Charles started off as an editor at PlayValue Books, an imprint of G.P. Putnam's Sons, from 1985 to 1987. Charles then moved on to work as an editor at Bantam Doubleday Dell from 1987 to 1993. Following that, they joined DC Comics and MAD Magazine as an editor, where they worked for twelve years, until 2005. In 2005, they joined ABRAMS as the Editorial Director and later became the Editor-in-Chief.
Charles Kochman attended Brooklyn College from 1980 to 1985, where they received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. Their primary fields of study were English Literature (Children's Books) and Film Studies. After that, from 1984 to 1985, they pursued Creative Writing with Gordon Lish at Columbia University, although it is not specified if they completed a degree there.
