Candace Sterley has over 20 years of professional experience. Candace began their career in 1999 as a Swimming Teacher at Swimstruck, where they provided Learn to Swim instruction for individual beginner lessons and small groups (advanced beginner to intermediate), for both children and adults. Candace also provided swimming fitness coaching for Ironman, Lifesaving, and Ocean Racing. In 2009, they became a Pilates Mat Instructor at Streamlined Pilates, where they assessed body alignment, fitness, strengths, weaknesses, and injuries, and planned custom programmes.

In 2011, Sterley was appointed Programme Coordinator at ECGLA, where they assisted LGBTI people in Nelson Mandela Bay to access support services, and organised events and marches in collaboration with other organisations. In 2013, they became Project Officer at PCRD, where they compiled a Refugee Reference Manual and SMME Toolkit for Advice Officers in the Eastern Cape, and developed material for Refugee and Asylum Seeker Rights lessons for SA Grade 10 Learners. That same year, they were also appointed Material Development Consultant at GMSA Foundation, where they developed material for General Motors (GM) Foundation for First Additional Language English lessons for Grade 4 - Grade 6 learners.

In 2016, Sterley was hired as Material Developer at Project Management Institute, where they designed and developed the material template to Mercedes Benz SA standards, infusing technical training content with Adult Instructional Design Principles. In 2019, they became a St Georges Preparatory School Rookie Lifeguard Programme Coach at Kings Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, where they delivered a programme for St Georges Preparatory School’s Grade 7s. Finally, in 2020, Sterley was hired as Project Worker at YMCA DownsLink Group, and in 2021, they became Operations Assistant at Aberdeen Sports Village.

Candace Sterley has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Rhodes University, where they studied Drama and Politics.
