Hamsell Alvarez is a seasoned professional in the field of Immuno-Oncology biologics and protein engineering, currently serving as Director and Senior Principal Research Scientist at AbbVie since 2022. Throughout a distinguished career at AbbVie from 2011 to the present, Hamsell has held various leadership roles focused on the discovery and development of immunotherapeutic agents, including checkpoint inhibitors and antibody-drug conjugates. Prior to AbbVie, Hamsell completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Merck, where expertise was gained in cytokine and immunocytokine development for tumor immunotherapy, alongside research positions at Northwestern University and UNC Charlotte, emphasizing structural biology and organic synthesis. Hamsell earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Structural Biology from Northwestern University, complemented by an MS in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a BS in Chemistry from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.
