Fran has a Masters in Chemistry from Loughborough University, with undergraduate research projects investigating pesticide residues in fruit juices and evaluating the performance of novel fingerprinting methods. Fran also completed a final year project determining the feasibility of monitoring cholesterol levels in the body by analysing headspace VOC samples from stressed cells. Throughout her degree, Fran gained experience in practical laboratory techniques including GC-MS, LC-MS and FTIR, as well as honing her science writing skills through literature reviews, project proposals and journal articles.
Whilst at university, Fran was elected Chair of the Chemistry Society where she organised multiple staff and student social events, as well as outreach programmes for local schools and charities. Fran was also a School of Science Ambassador, presenting to prospective students and hosting laboratory experience days in partnership with local businesses.
