Joyce Liu

Head of Design at Zip

Joyce Liu has a wealth of experience in UX/UI Design, Research, and Content Strategy. Joyce began their career in 2012 as the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of berkeleyByte, a technology and design publication at UC Berkeley, where they managed a team of writers, editors, photographers, event planners, and a web developer. In 2013, they were a User Interface Design Intern at Curious.com and a Design Research Assistant at the Berkeley Institute of Design in collaboration with Adobe Systems. Joyce then worked as a Research Assistant at the Computational Cognition Lab in the UC Berkeley Psychology Department, where they created videos and materials to teach people about growth mindset and improve learning. In 2014, they were a Course Assistant for Designing Innovative Public Health Solutions: Eat-Think-Design (PH 290) at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, where they designed the branding for the class, including the logo, templates for documents and presentations, and developed materials for class activities. In 2015, they worked as a Senior Interaction Designer at Google, where they were part of the team that created the first UX onboarding course for all new UX hires and was an active member of the Design Sprints community. Joyce was also a Product Designer at bebop.co, which was acquired by Google and became Hire by Google. Later in 2015, they were a Project Lead for a MHCI Capstone Project with PNC Financial Services, where they formulated and guided product and research strategy and collaborated with researchers, designers, and developers to meet project deadlines. In 2021, they began their current role as Head of Design at Zip, where they are building out a world-class UX team and actively hiring product designers and UX Researchers.

Joyce Liu holds a Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Cognitive Science and English, with a minor in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
