Phil Southerland is an accomplished entrepreneur and advocate in the field of diabetes management and sports. As the CEO and Founder of Supersapiens since February 2019, Phil has pioneered an energy management system for athletes in partnership with Abbott Libre Sense. Phil also serves as the CEO and Co-Founder of Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetic professional cycling team, working to raise awareness for diabetes ownership and empowerment. In addition, Phil is the Volunteer President and Founder of Team Type 1, dedicated to improving access to medication and education for individuals affected by Type 1 diabetes. Phil's extensive experience includes a role as Director of Health Care Planning, Policy, and Patient Advocacy at the World Health Organization, where policy development for diabetes was a focus. Phil is also an author of “Not Dead Yet: My Race Against Disease from Diagnosis to Dominance,” detailing a personal journey with diabetes and sports. Phil holds a degree from The University of Georgia, obtained between 2000 and 2005.
