Linda Stone

LINDA STONE worked in a variety of executive positions from 1986 to 2002, ranging from marketing to research to senior management, at both Apple and Microsoft. She was a pioneer in the area of multimedia in the 1980s, and a pioneer in social media in the early 1990s. She’s coined several phrases that have become memes: continuous partial attention, screen apnea, and email apnea. She studies the psychophysiology of our relationship with technology and considers how that relationship can evolve to support the regulation of attention and emotion. Today, Stone writes, speaks, consults, and serves on for-profit and nonprofit advisory boards, including the MIT Media Lab Advisory Council.
