Trudy Costa is a Coastal Environment Officer at Wollongong City Council, overseeing the Lake Illawarra Coastal Management Program in collaboration with Shellharbour Council and state agencies since January 2023. As a founding member of Circular Plastics Illawarra, Trudy advocates for the reduction, reuse, and recycling of plastics in the Illawarra region. Previous roles include Lecturer and Subject Coordinator at the University of Wollongong from June 2019 to March 2023 and earlier teaching positions at the same institution. Trudy also worked as a Research Analyst at Sampling and Preparation Services Pty. Ltd., where a reliability testing program for copper sulphate samples was developed and conducted, and as a Research Assistant at Museum Victoria, focusing on identifying and classifying marine invertebrates. Trudy holds a PhD in Marine Ecology from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Marine Science (Hons) from the University of Wollongong.
