Karine Scheuermaier serves as an Associate Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand since 2010, focusing on sleep, circadian rhythms, and health through laboratory-based and epidemiological studies in Sub-Saharan Africa. Previously, Karine held positions as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer, coordinating BSc and BHSc Physiology programs while conducting research on sleep, circadian rhythms, and the immune system. Prior experience includes serving as a Research Fellow in Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School from 2006 to 2010, where investigation centered on age-related changes in sleep and circadian rhythms, under the mentorship of Dr. Jeanne Duffy. Earlier medical training was completed at AP-HP, Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris, as a Clinical Haematology Registrar. Academic credentials include an MMSc in Clinical Research from Harvard Medical School, an MD from Université Paris Cité, a one-year MA in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a BA in Public Policy and Economics from Sciences Po.
