Kemen Austin currently serves as the Director of Science for the Forest and Climate Program at the Wildlife Conservation Society since September 2022. Prior to this role, Kemen Austin was a Senior Scientist at RTI International from 2018 to 2022, leading research on the ecological, social, and economic impacts of land-sector climate change mitigation initiatives for the US federal government and foundation clients. Kemen Austin also worked as a Research Associate in the Forests Program at the World Resources Institute from 2009 to 2016, where responsibilities included supporting the design and evaluation of natural resource management programs focused on low emissions agricultural strategies in tropical regions. Between 2008 and 2009, Kemen Austin held the position of Luce Environmental Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, conducting fieldwork on forest carbon stock estimates in Papua New Guinea. Kemen Austin holds a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from Brown University, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science, Economics, and Policy from Duke University.
