James Bonfield

James Bonfield is a Principal Software Engineer with extensive experience in software development within the field of bioinformatics. Since May 2003, James has been a key member of the DNA Pipelines group at Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, where James serves as the primary developer of Gap5, a DNA sequence assembly editor that is part of the Staden Package. Previously, from August 1992 to April 2003, James worked as a Software Engineer at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, contributing to the development of the Staden Package under the guidance of Rodger Staden. James's expertise includes software development in C and Tcl/Tk, as well as system administration across multiple Unix and Windows platforms. James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Warwick, completing studies there in 1992.
