Daniel Valdez (he/him/his)

Chief External Affairs Officer at Welcoming America

Daniel Valdez has an extensive work history, starting in 2006 as an Immigrant Right's Paralegal/Client Service Specialist at the Latin American Coalition. There, they developed the agency's immigrant rights efforts and oversaw consumer rights cases. From 2008 to 2010, Valdez worked as a Field Promotions Coordinator at Kare Distribution, managing logistics and marketing communications for southeast Latino markets. Daniel then joined Carolinas CARE Partnership in 2010 as a Bilingual Project Coordinator, where they implemented a successful Latino outreach strategy for an HIV prevention project.

In 2011, Valdez moved to Crisis Assistance Ministry, where they served as the Advocacy Program Manager. Daniel spearheaded the strategic plan for the development of an advocacy program and led the county's largest poverty education effort. Valdez's next role was at Welcoming America, where they held various positions from 2015 to 2019. Daniel started as a Regional Manager and later became the Network Director, overseeing the growth and maintenance of a membership network of municipalities and nonprofit organizations.

Valdez joined Hispanic Federation in 2019 as the Director of NC and Mid-south Operations, where they established and managed the North Carolina and Mid-south office. In this role, they focused on empowering and advancing the Hispanic community through various initiatives. Currently, Valdez works at Welcoming America as the Sr. Director of External Affairs, responsible for overseeing organizational partnerships, funding streams, communications, and brand strength. Daniel also plays a role in setting the vision and direction for externally facing efforts and leading a creative revenue strategy. Valdez will assume the position of Chief External Affairs Officer at Welcoming America in April 2023.

Daniel Valdez earned a Certificate in Non-Profit/Public/Organizational Management from Duke University in 2017. Prior to that, from 2004 to 2008, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Latin American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
