Brian Karlak is an accomplished engineering leader with extensive experience in the technology and biotechnology sectors. Currently serving as the Director of Engineering at Waymo since March 2022, Brian manages the Planner Infrastructure group with emphasis on reliability, performance, and developer experience. Prior experience includes over a decade at Google in various engineering leadership roles within YouTube Music, where Brian significantly contributed to the growth of the platform and its analytics capabilities. Brian also held pivotal positions at Metaweb Technologies, Perlegen Sciences, Zenkat, Syrrx, Celera Genomics, and Molecular Applications Group, demonstrating a strong background in software engineering, machine learning, and genomics. Brian earned a degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
