Kareem Al Fakhry is an engineer at Wattpad. Kareem previously worked as a software engineer III at Cisco from April 2015 to May 2019. Kareem was a core developer of Xpresso, an internal web-based continuous integration tool that delivers a “one-stop shop” for end to end test script execution, testbed management, analytics and result reporting for triage. Kareem also contributed in the design and transition from a monolithic Django service to a cloud-based microservice architecture for improved robustness. In addition, they designed and implemented a RESTful API gateway Node.js server using Express, critical for the tool’s performance and scalability. Furthermore, they developed a Kafka consumer Node.js service that delivered real time functionalities to users (using WebSockets and Socket.IO) driven by continuous data streams from various microservices. Lastly, they used Angular and RxJS to build a robust and reactive front-end UI, which interfaced with multiple microservices.

Kareem Al Fakhry has a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) in Engineering Management from the University of Ottawa, and a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University. Kareem is certified by The Linux Foundation as a Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), and by Amazon Web Services (AWS) as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.
