Thomas Selishev has a diverse work experience in the field of special education and operations. Thomas began their career as a Special Education Teaching Fellow at Frederick County Public Schools in 2017. Thomas then worked at District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), where they served as a Special Education Teacher in an inclusion setting, and later as a Special Education Specialist in the ILS program.
In 2021, Thomas joined KIPP DC as the Manager of Special Education and Compliance, where they played a crucial role in implementing special education systems and services across three schools. Thomas also managed compliance and regulatory requirements. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Operations and Strategy at Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School, overseeing various operational services and programs. Thomas is known for their expertise in special education, compliance, and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders.
Thomas Selishev holds a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.Ed.) degree in Special Education and Teaching K-8 from Mount St. Mary's University. Currently, they are pursuing a Master of Education (MEd) degree in Elementary and Middle School Administration/Principalship at The University of Texas at Arlington, which is expected to be completed between 2022 and 2024. In terms of certifications, Thomas has obtained the Microsoft Innovative Educator certification from Microsoft in 2020. Thomas also holds a Teaching License- Pre K-12 Non-Categorical Special Education from the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), obtained in April 2020. Additionally, they have certifications in VTSS Tier 1 Forum- PBIS from the Virginia Department of Education in 2019, SW47x: Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies from Harvard University in 2018, and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training and Certification from the Crisis Management Institute in 2017.
