Chief Tony Facos of the Montpelier Police Department began his law enforcement career as an Auxiliary State Trooper for the Vermont State Police in 1985. In 1987, he was hired as a full-time patrol officer for the Montpelier PD. In 1997 he was promoted to the rank of sergeant, a position held until he was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Montpelier (VT) in 2007.
Over the course of Chief Facos’ thirty-four years in law enforcement, he has worked in marine enforcement, instituted MPD’s bicycle patrol unit in 1993, served as hostage/crisis negotiator, and has experience in drug enforcement, and patrol, tactical operations, investigations, and incident command.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Norwich University, a certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Arts in Diplomacy/International Relations from Norwich University.
