Matthew Loar

Director Of Fellowships And Student Research at Washington and Lee University

Matthew Loar is an accomplished academic and administrative professional with extensive experience in higher education. Currently serving as the Director of Fellowships and Student Research at Washington and Lee University since July 2019, Matthew also holds the position of Director at The Beinecke Scholarship Program since July 2022. Prior to these roles, Matthew was an Assistant Professor of Classics (tenure-track) and Lecturer of Classics at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln from July 2015 to June 2019. Early in their career, Matthew taught high school mathematics at Tower Hill School in early 2008. Matthew's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Classics and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics from Stanford University, a Master's degree in Women's Studies from the University of Oxford, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics from Washington and Lee University.
