Dr. David Harris has had a longstanding career in the medical field in New York. He was the Vice President of Medical Affairs for the Visiting Nurse Service of New York; the Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services; the Associate Director of Mount Sinai Hospital; and Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health.
Dr. Harris is a Professor of preventative medicine at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook. He attended Cornell University where he was selected to Phi Beta Kappa and received his MD from the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Harris is a member of the board of several organizations that address issues of medicine, health, professional medical conduct, home health and hospice care and disposal of low-level radioactive waste.
Dr. Harris is a 1965 alumnus of the Mailman School. He is a recipient of Columbia’s Alumni Federation Medal for conspicuous service. Dr. Harris has been a member of the Board of Overseers since 1996.
