Matti Luhtala has worked as a Service Designer at Vincit since March 2021. Prior to that, they were an Ecosystem Co-creation Researcher and Service Designer at VTT from April 2019 to March 2021. From November 2015 to November 2018, they served as the Head of SmartLab Design Laboratory at Vantaan kaupunki. Before that, they worked at the University of Tampere as a Designer and Developer of Auditory Interfaces and Interactive Musical Systems from November 2011 to October 2015. Their responsibilities included designing and developing auditory interfaces and studying aesthetic aspects of musical interaction. Matti also worked at VTT as a Designer and Developer of Music Creation Tools from June 2010 to October 2011, where they focused on designing and developing music creation tools for music therapists and individuals with intellectual learning disabilities as part of the Eureka/ITEA DIYSE project.
Matti Luhtala's education history begins in 2006 when they attended the Adulta Radio and Television Institute. During this time, they pursued a Media Assistant degree with a focus on Audio Visual Basic Examination. In addition, they also enrolled in the Media Education Program and Digital Sound Design courses at the same institute.
In 2007, Luhtala continued their education at TAMK University of Applied Sciences, where they completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sound Design.
In 2008, they furthered their studies at the Aalto University School of Art and Design, where they attained a Master of Arts degree in Sound in New Media.
Lastly, from 2012 to 2023, Luhtala pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at Tampere University, specializing in Interactive Technology.
Throughout their education, Luhtala demonstrated a consistent commitment to expanding their knowledge and skills in various fields of study related to sound and media.
