Paul Smyth has extensive experience in computer vision and software development. Paul started their career in 1993 as a PhD student at the University of Manchester, where they focused on their research until 1997. Paul then joined Vicon as a Computer Vision Scientist, a role they held until 2004. At Vicon, they contributed to the development and improvement of computer vision systems. In 2004, they took on the position of Research Manager at Vicon Motion Systems, where they oversaw research projects and managed a team. In 2007, they transitioned into the role of Software Development Manager, where they continued to lead software development projects.
Paul Smyth received their primary education from Colchester Royal Grammar School from 1984 to 1986, followed by attending The Edinburgh Academy from 1986 to 1987. Paul then enrolled in George Heriot's School from 1987 to 1990. Paul proceeded to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Cambridge, completing it between 1990 and 1993. Subsequently, they continued their academic journey at The University of Manchester, where they earned a PhD in Computer Vision from 1993 to 1997.
