Ash Franks is an Associate Professor of Microbiology at La Trobe University. Ash has been in this role since March 2011. Her research interests include the ecology and evolution of microorganisms, and they have published numerous papers on these topics.

Before joining La Trobe University, Ash was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Melbourne. Ash completed their PhD in microbiology at the University of Queensland in 2010.

Ash Franks completed their schooling at Kelso High School in NSW, Australia. Ash then went on to study for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microbiology at UNSW.
