Ian Smith

Proteomics Scientist at Velia

Ian Smith has a strong background in proteomics and research, spanning from their undergraduate years to their current position as a Proteomics Scientist at Velia since 2023. Prior to that, Ian worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School from 2022 to 2023, where they focused on integrating multi-dimensional proteomic assays to identify Cullin-ring ligase (CRL) substrates. Ian also worked as a Graduate Student at the University of Washington from 2016 to 2022, where their research involved developing protein turnover and thermal stability MS methods, as well as establishing a novel data acquisition and database search strategy. Before that, Ian was a Research Technician at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from 2014 to 2016, where they standardized proteomic protocols and developed targeted MS platforms for quantification of peptides. Ian's work experience started as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Muhlenberg College from 2011 to 2014, where they focused on defining the kinetic mechanism of L-DOPA-2,3-dioxygenase.

Ian Smith attended Muhlenberg College from 2010 to 2014, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Mathematics. Following this, from 2016 to 2022, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Washington in the field of Genome Sciences.
