David Calkins has a strong background in the medical field, with experience at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the University of Rochester Medical Center. At Vanderbilt, they have held various positions including Vice President for Research, Professor, Vice Chairman, and Director, and Assistant Vice President for Research. David began their tenure at Vanderbilt in 2004 and continues to work there currently. Prior to their time at Vanderbilt, they served as an Associate Professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center from 1998 to 2004.
David Calkins completed their Bachelor's degree in Pure Mathematics at the University of Michigan from 1985 to 1989. David then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neurobiology and Neurosciences at the University of Pennsylvania, which they completed from 1989 to 1994. Following this, they held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Max Planck Society from 1995 to 1996. Finally, they completed another Postdoctoral Fellowship in the field of Neurobiology and Neurosciences at The Johns Hopkins University from 1996 to 1998.
