Geert Vandeweyer is Labo-Coordinator in Bio-Informatica at UZA since April 2020, previously serving as an FWO Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Antwerp from September 2007 to April 2020, where expertise was developed in deciphering inheritance patterns through advanced data mining techniques on high throughput genomic data. Geert also implemented data analysis for Next Generation Sequencing and established a High Performance Computing platform. A PhD dissertation was prepared and defended on the genetics of cognitive disorders, focusing on the discovery of genetic causes for mental retardation, with significant emphasis on data analysis, mining, and bioinformatics. Geert holds an Advanced Master in Bio-Informatics and a Master's degree in Biological Engineering with a specialization in Cell and Gene Biotechnology, both from KU Leuven.
