Maria Balsamo is a distinguished academic in the field of Zoology, currently serving as Full Professor and Director at the Institute of Morphological Sciences and the Research Center on Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of Urbino since November 1998. Previously, Maria held the position of Full Professor of Zoology at the University of Udine from 1994 to 1998, focusing on aquatic ecosystems and conducting extensive research on the systematics and reproductive biology of lower Metazoa. Prior to that, Maria was an Associate Professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia from 1977 to 1994, where research centered around Gastrotricha. Maria's academic foundation includes a degree in Biological Sciences with a specialization in Zoology from the Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia, and earlier classic studies at Liceo Classico Muratori.
