Matthew D. Gardiner serves as the NIHR CRN KSS Subspecialty Lead for Hands and Plastic Surgery at the National Institute for Health Research since April 2021 and holds dual roles as Associate Medical Director for Research and Development and Consultant Hand and Plastic Surgeon at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust since February 2019. Additionally, Matthew is an Honorary Departmental Senior Research Fellow and Honorary Departmental Clinical Lecturer in Plastic Surgery at the University of Oxford since April 2012. Matthew has been the Surgical Specialty Lead for Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England since July 2019 and an Associate Editor for the Pilot and Feasibility Studies journal since July 2018. Previous experience includes serving as TIG Hand Fellow at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Specialty Registrar in Plastic Surgery within the National Health Service. Matthew's educational background includes a BM BCh from the University of Oxford, a PhD from Imperial College London, and a Master of Arts from the University of Cambridge, along with a BA(Hons) in Physiological Sciences.
