Jim Naismith is the Head of the MPLS Division at the University of Oxford, leading efforts in computational, mathematical, physical, life, and engineering sciences since June 2017. In addition to this role, Jim serves as Vice President (non-clinical) at The Academy of Medical Sciences and holds the position of Senior Research Fellow at Jesus College Oxford, where mentoring postgraduate students is a key focus. As Vice Chair of Council for European XFEL, Jim is involved in the governance of a major European science partnership. Previously, Jim was the Director of the Rosalind Franklin Institute, contributing significantly to UK research during tenure. Jim co-founded GyreOx and has also served on the Council of the Royal Society. With a longstanding academic career at the University of St Andrews and other institutions, Jim holds multiple degrees, including a DSc and PhD in Structural Biology, and has been influential in various scientific and educational capacities.
