Ian Kenyon joined Council on 1 January 2020 as Treasurer and Chair of Finance Committee.
Ian read Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham before training as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse. After qualifying he moved to the printing company St Ives Group plc before starting a twenty-year career in the retail sector including senior finance roles at Kingfisher, Sainsburys and the CFO roles at Carpetright plc, Carphone Warehouse’s retail division and HMV Group plc. He has worked internationally including a period where he worked and lived in France.
Ian moved into the charity sector as CFO of Cancer Research UK before joining the public sector as the first CFO and Deputy CEO of UK Research & Innovation which brought together the seven UK Research Councils, Innovate UK and Research England. He therefore has a detailed understanding of the relationships between the Higher Education sector and the research funding organisations.
He joined the Home Office in 2019 and is currently Finance Director of the Government Property Agency.
He lives in Guildford and was Treasurer of Guildford Cathedral for a number of years. In his spare time, you will often find him running as he is a keen Park runner.
