Emma Sparks serves as the Dean and Rector of UNSW Canberra since January 2022, after a significant tenure at Cranfield University from September 2005 to January 2022, where Emma held multiple leadership roles, including Professor of Systems Engineering Education and Director of Programme Portfolio Delivery. Emma's expertise lies in systems engineering and human capability, with a focus on systems thinking and human systems integration, supported by consultancy work with the Defence Science and Technology Organisation in Australia. Prior to their academic roles, Emma held positions as Technical Lead for Soldier Systems at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and as a Graduate Scientist at the Defence Clothing and Textiles Agency. Emma's educational background includes a PhD in Systems Engineering and various degrees in systems engineering, osteopathy, sports science, and business and finance.
