Dr Richard Benjamin

Senior Lecturer, Contemporary Museum Practice at University of Liverpool

Dr Richard Benjamin is a Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Museum Practice and a Visiting Professor for Slavery & Public Engagement at the University of Liverpool, where positions have been held since September 2021. Prior to this, Dr Benjamin served as Head of the International Slavery Museum at National Museums Liverpool from November 2006 to September 2021, focusing on strategic development and fostering collaborations with various institutions while leading a curatorial team. Earlier experience includes roles as Community Consultation Co-ordinator at National Museums Liverpool and Widening Participation Officer at the University of Liverpool. Dr Benjamin earned a PhD and an MA in Archaeology from the University of Liverpool and has also studied at the W.E.B. DuBois Institute of African and African American Research and holds a BA (Hons) in Community and Race Relations Studies from Edge Hill University.
