Ben Marx has extensive work experience in the field of accounting and auditing. Ben started their career as an auditing clerk at Deloitte & Touche in 1989. Ben then worked as a senior lecturer and temporary part-time lecturer at the Department of Accounting at UOFS from 1990 to 1993. In 1994, they became an associate professor at the Centre for Accounting at UOFS for a year. From 1995 onwards, they joined the University of Johannesburg, where they held various roles including professor, vice-chairman of the Department, chairman of the Department of Auditing, and head of the Unit for CA Studies. In 1998, they co-founded and became the managing director of APT - Accounting Professional Training. Ben has also served as a director and audit committee member for various companies since 2003. As of 2024, they are the director of the UJ School of Accounting at the University of Johannesburg.
Ben Marx obtained a Bachelor's Degree in BCompt (cum laude) from the University of the Free State in 1985. Ben then pursued a Bachelor's Degree in CTA from the same university in 1988. Ben also earned a Bachelor's Degree in BCompt (Honours) from the University of the Free State in the same year. Ben completed their education at the University of the Free State with a Master's Degree in MCompt (cum laude) in 1993. In 2009, they obtained a Doctor of Commerce (DCom) degree from the University of Johannesburg. Additionally, Ben has several certifications, including being a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) from SAICA CA(SA) in 1991 and being a Registered Accountant and Auditor from the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors in 1996. Ben is also a member of various professional organizations such as the Association of Black Charted Accountants of South Africa (ABASA) and the Institute of Directors in Southern Africa. In 2011, they were offered an honorary membership as a Fellow from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries in South Africa.
