J. Stephen Downie serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science since 1998. J. Stephen Downie's expertise encompasses areas such as Informetrics, Digital Libraries, Information Retrieval, Multimedia, and Music Information Retrieval. Additionally, J. Stephen Downie directs the International Music Information Retrieval Systems Evaluation Laboratory (IMIRSEL) and is involved with the Music Information Retrieval Evaluation eXchange (MIREX). J. Stephen Downie earned a PhD in Library and Information Science from Western University, along with an MLIS and a BA in Music Theory and Composition from the same institution. J. Stephen Downie also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Queen's University.
