Sonya Simmons is currently serving as the Resident Director at the University of Detroit Mercy since January 2024. Prior to this role, Sonya worked as a Success Coach with Urban Neighborhood Initiatives from February 2023 to January 2024 and held multiple positions at the University of Detroit Mercy from June 2020 to December 2022, including Financial & Data Metrics Administrative Assistant, Orientation Director, and Orientation Leader. As a Financial & Data Metrics Administrative Assistant, Sonya acted as a liaison between administrative staff and students, prepared quarterly financial reconciliations, and handled expense reports. Sonya has also contributed as a Teaching Assistant for the TRIO Upward Bound Program during the summer of 2020. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Language Studies Certificate in Spanish, both from the University of Detroit Mercy, as well as a high school diploma from Notre Dame Preparatory School.
