Gitanjali Rao is a 15-year-old American scientist, inventor and STEM promoter. She won the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge in 2017 for her lead-detection device, which is capable of finding lead in drinking water with the aid of a mobile app. Most recently, Rao developed Kindly, a phone and Web tool that uses artificial intelligence technology to detect possible early signs of cyberbullying. She's been recognized as Forbes 30 U 30 for her innovations and recently was named Time's Kid of the Year for 2020.
