Madeleine Lewis is a PhD student at the University of Bristol, specializing in the study of cryospheric microbial communities under the guidance of Dr. Chris Williamson and Dr. Patricia Sánchez-Baracaldo, with collaboration from the British Antarctic Survey. In addition to the research role, Madeleine serves as a Laboratory Demonstrator and PGR Student Representative, where responsibilities include advocating for student interests, managing budgets, and coordinating academic events. Previous experience encompasses positions as a Senior Research and Development Scientist at Conidia Bioscience, focusing on fuel-associated microbial ecology, and internships in Arctic Marine Molecular Ecology and mycology. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Reading, a Master’s degree in Bio Inspired Innovation with a focus on Environmental Microbiology from Utrecht University, and ongoing doctoral studies in Geography at the University of Bristol. Additional qualifications include roles as a Fire Warden, Office First Aider, and various instructional positions in skiing and private tutoring.
