Sarah Mathieson

Sarah Mathieson has a wide range of work experience in various roles within the financial and actuarial sectors. Sarah began their career as a Sales Development Actuary at Standard Life Versicherung in Germany. Sarah then worked as a Sales & Marketing Actuary at HDFC Standard Life in Mumbai. Following this, they joined Standard Life Assurance Co as a Finance Actuary, where they managed financial processes and planning within the Customer Service Division. Sarah then worked at Resolution Plc as a Business Development Actuary, focusing on pricing capabilities and process improvements. Sarah subsequently joined Pearl Group Limited as a Corporate Finance Manager, where they contributed to a number of corporate projects. Sarah then transitioned to AEGON UK, first as a Head of Proposition Management (Trustee) in Corporate Marketing, and later as a Business Risk Consultant. Prior to their current role, Sarah worked at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) as a Policy Manager and as the Head of Research and Knowledge, overseeing the IFoA's Actuarial Research Centre and various governance committees. Sarah has also served as an Independent Member on the Research Accreditation Panel at the UK Statistics Authority. Currently, Sarah is the Chief of the Data Analysis Unit at the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund.

Sarah Mathieson has a strong educational background that includes a Master's degree in Science from the University of St Andrews, which they obtained from 1993 to 1997. Their specialization during this time was in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Following this, they pursued a Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction in Actuarial Science at Heriot-Watt University, completing it in 1998. In 1998, Sarah also became a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries after studying Life Insurance and Pensions at the Faculty of Actuaries from 1998 to 2001. Sarah later achieved an MBA with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh Business School from 2008 to 2011. Their dissertation at this institution focused on workplace pension reforms and the small business sector.
