George Conway is an experienced humanitarian and development professional currently serving as the UN Deputy SRSG, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) since August 2023. Prior to this role, George held the position of Deputy Director at the Crisis Bureau of UNDP from January 2020 to August 2023, and served in various capacities within UNSOM, including a.i. Resident Coordinator & Humanitarian Coordinator in 2019. George's extensive career with UNDP includes roles as Country Director for UNDP Somalia and Country Director a.i. for UNDP South Sudan, alongside significant experience in crisis prevention and recovery. Academically, George Conway earned a Masters of Arts in International Affairs focused on Development Studies from Carleton University and holds additional master's and bachelor's degrees in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies and Anthropology, respectively.
