Thierry De Backer has a diverse work experience in various roles related to venue operations, media operations, and event consulting in the sports industry. Thierry started their career in 1996 as an Assistant to the Director of Stadium and Sites for Euro 2000. Thierry then worked as a Venue Manager for TEAM Marketing AG from 2000 to 2003. In 2003, they became a self-employed Event Consultant.

In 2004, De Backer joined UEFA where they held multiple roles, including Venue Operations & Broadcast Manager and Media Officer. In these positions, they were responsible for managing operations and media activities for UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and EURO tournaments. Thierry also played a key role in media operations for U21 tournaments and UCL Season Kick-off events.

In 2008, De Backer became the Head of Operations for Superleague Formula, where they managed operational activities for the racing series. In 2011, they started working for FIFA as a Media Officer, overseeing media operations at various FIFA World Cups, Confederations Cups, and youth tournaments.

During their time at Supponor from 2011 to 2016, De Backer worked as an Independent Consultant, leading the implementation of virtual digital billboard replacement (DBR) technology in the Spanish League. Thierry was responsible for setting up operational procedures and testing phases, ensuring the successful deployment of the technology.
